Harvest Moon ~ Shine On....

Can you believe the song, Harvest Moon, was written in 1908? Over 100 years ago!

There was a great Harvest Moon in CT last night. I stopped and took a picture in the middle of the road. And YES, in Northeast CT you can do just that, without getting run over or having imposing lights from anywhere!

Here are a few cool versions of the song Harvest Moon:
Leon Redbone (cool cat)

Liza Minnelli (no lie!)
Laurel & Hardy (bizarre & scary)
The Four Aces (nice!)

And by the way, the Harvest Moon is the full moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. Check out some info on wikipedia about the Harvest Moon.

If you are a reader, one of the best books written ever about the fall harvesting time is Harvest Home, by Thomas Tryon. It is guaranteed to freak you out, and make you think twice about fall festivals!

I am a Putnamaniac that loves the Harvest Moon~Shine on!

Here are the old song's lyrics to enjoy:
The night was mighty dark so you could hardly see
For the moon refused to shine
Couple sitting underneath the willow tree
For love, they pined

Little Maid was kinda 'fraid of darkness
So she says "I think i'll go."
Boy began to sigh, looked up to the sky
Told the moon his little tale of woe

So shine on Shine on harvest moon Up in the sky

I ain't had no lovin' since January, February, June or July

Snow time ain't no time to stay outdoors and spoon
So shine on Shine on harvest moon for me and my gal

Snow time ain't no time to stay outdoors and spoon
So shine on Shine on harvest moon for me and my gal
