I've always want to cry at Hallmark commercials, or at Harry Chapin songs, or when I see a very old man shopping for groceries by himself, or at a particularly touching section of an awesome book... but tonight I surprised myself by wanting to cry at the gazillion little trick or treaters that were traipsing through Putnamania during the Annual Trick or Treat Night. I really don't even know why, except it overwhelmed me at how many people there were and how excited they all were.
It was my first time to see this event. (My schedule never allowed me to witness this community event).
I will NEVER miss it again.
As I drove through town, the sidewalks were filled with kids in costumes, and lots of parents dressed up as well. I thought there were be some kids, but there were gazillions of them, each as adorable as the next. It was like a movie... or a Hallmark commercial.
The businesses in town were out handing out treats in front of their establishments, and were all costumed themselves.
I saw lots of little Marios, Princesses, butterflies, super heros, monkeys... A few of the best costumes were a big brother as a bottle of mustard & his little brother as a bottle of ketchup, a family dressed as pizza (dad was the box and the kids were the slices).
I must tell you that these simple things bring so much joy to me, and judging by all the families I saw tonight, the joy was shared by them all, too!
Get out and enjoy the simple things... you think they might not be a big deal... until you get there and see them for yourself!
I am a Putnamaniac because my first Trick or Treat Night in town brought tears to my eyes!
