Keep on Following the Fifty and what they stand for (although they don't stand still very often)!

Follow the Fifty was an amazing bunch of women that inspired us all in Northeast CT this past year.

From the Follow the Fifty website:
Follow the Fifty: Models of Heart Health is an energetic and empowering women’s heart health initiative that was funded through The Heart Truth® Community Action Program, a women’s heart health awareness and action campaign that warns women about heart disease and provides tools to help them take action against its risk factors. Originally designed to recruit fifty women from northeastern Connecticut to serve as models of heart health, the initiative was expanded due to the overwhelming response to the model recruitment campaign. 183 women were selected on February 29, 2012, to lead others in Connecticut’s “Quiet Corner” on a remarkable journey of heart health.

The focus of Follow the Fifty is not on visual outcomes, it’s more about the importance of lowering the risk factors that are impacting your health on the inside. The emphasis here is on being a successful ‘role’ model rather than a ‘runway’ model!”

You could not help but follow them. They were everywhere!!!!! They were walking together, biking together, jogging together, racing together, at community events together. I found them very inspirational. Every time I wear my "Ask me why I follow the fifty" t-shirt, I got asked, and I told why!

This afternoon as I was at my friend's house, I spotted the Follow the Fifty heart logo in the project manager's driveway, so I stopped and took a picture of it.

This same heart logo was recently painted on the roads in town, in many spots. It sure does help me to remember to take care of myself and my heart health.

It is very easy to be a part of this community if you choose to do so. The folks here make it easy! We are in it together. Good stuff.

I am a Putnamaniac that will Follow the Fifty and what they taught us all...forever!
