A fun song is "If I had a million dollars" by the Barenaked Ladies. (Enjoy a live version here on youtube).
I'm pretty sure if I ever had a million dollars, I could and would give pretty much all of it away to the great local organizations in my area.
The Quiet Corner of Northeast CT is tight, and this community watches out for and takes care of each other. The generosity here always amazes me.
Flat handouts aren't the answer.
However, a hand up, while someone is temporarily in need, is effective. The best case of "paying it forward."
A former boss of mine used to joke about my working 7 days a week for years and years and years (and loving it for the most part)! He'd say "If you didn't give away most of what you make, you wouldn't have to work so much"!
Little did he know, I like working, and giving. Luckily, I don't need that much and am pretty simple with my needs, so why not help out? Someday I may need help and will be happy to know that help is there.
The Barenaked Ladies say: If I had a million dollars, I’d be rich...
I say: I am already rich!
I am a Putnamaniac that is rich, but if I had a million dollars, I would pretty much give it all away to good local causes!
