In these final days of packing and planning, there is also a lot of time being spent enjoying the wildlife that goes along with living on a river.
The soothing sounds of the river alone are priceless, as are the birds and ducks. Catching glimpse of muskrats, deer, woodchucks and more is also such a pleasure... yes.... even when they are nibbling away in the Renegade Garden.
Lately though, a heron has been squawking up a storm!
I do not know if it is the time of year, or if a loud and vocal heron has begun frequenting our area, but in any case, it is loud!!!
The first few times I heard it, I thought "What the heck is that", but I googled and as usual, the Cornell website was a great help.
Take a listen to some of the heron sounds they have captured and shared here (scroll down a bit once you get to their page).
Be sure to keep your ears open wherever you live for the sounds of your neighborhood. I hope they are as nice as mine.
I am a Putnamaniac that loves hearing the herons squawking!
